Nickname: Kevin

Age: 8

Sex: Male

Disorder: Middle functioning autism

Comorbid disorder: Linguistic disorder

Descriprion: Kevin is attending the 3rd class of the Primary school. He has difficulties in maintaining concentration, he always wanders in the classroom taking whatever object attracts his attention. He very often walks out of the classroom without asking permission. The start of school activities is very problematic: Kevin avoids doing every task in many ways, such as asking to go the toilet, drinking water, asking to get a game and so on.

Place: Classroom

Setting: Before school activities

Measure: Working on the antecedents in order to make Kevin feel more comfortable. For instance, allowing him to go the toilet before starting to study, telling him that he is going to do very simple tasks and after then he can have some leisure time. Breaking down difficult tasks to make them easier.
Working on consequences: giving him a game he has previously chosen every time he completes a task (he is not sensitive to praise); increasing gradually the length and the difficulty of the task. Using the Premack Contingency Option to teach the child to delay gratification.

Hypothesis of intervention: Decreasing the amount of time necessary for Kevin to start working. Increasing his attention and concentration span. Working peacefully on tasks.
